The next rulers, the Tang Dynasty, helped China reach the peak of its power by gaining control of Tibet, establishing trade with Southeast Asia and restoring civil service. This dynasty soon weakened, however, and the Song Dynasty soon came to be. This dynasty was weak to begin with due to Mongols pressing in on their borders.
